In light of Malaysia’s current Covid-19 situation, schools and vocational colleges will close starting Monday (Nov 9) to the last day of the 2020 school calendar year on Dec 17 (Category A) and Dec 18 (Category B), Education Minister Mohd Radzi
Md Jidin said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Sijil Vokasional Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia examinations will be postponed until Feb 22 next year, while the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia will be held on
March 8 next year, he added.
Mr Radzi said that the rescheduling of public examinations will not affect the admission of students to public tertiary level institutions, as well as the admission of students to public institutions of higher learning through the UPUOnline system
operated by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian University English Test for Matriculation Programme students that was supposed to be on Dec 8 until Dec 19 will be postponed until further notice.
The closure of schools includes those in Kelantan, Pahang, Perlis and Sarawak, since schools in states that will observe the conditional movement control order comprise 74 per cent of the total number of schools under the education ministry.
“This step was taken as an effort to break the Covid-19 infection chain,” he told a press conference that was broadcast live.
