With just over a month to go until the 2024 National High School Exam (Enem), the National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP) has been intensifying preparations for the application, which will take place on November 3 and 10. Last Monday, September 30, the president of INEP, Manuel Palacios; the director of Management and Planning of the Institute, Ricardo Cardozo; and technicians from the General Coordination of Monitoring and Logistics Integration met with the Special Committee for Logistics Advisory of ENEM 2024 to discuss aspects related to the process of assigning test locations to participants (rooming) and other possible improvements to the exam.

INEP has proposed a new model for distributing participants, reducing the distances between homes and test locations. The proposal is in line with a study conducted by the group of experts on this issue. A new meeting is scheduled for October 16.

Responsibilities – The Special Logistics Advisory Committee is responsible for supporting, subsidizing and advising on the definition of models that optimize the classroom arrangement of Enem participants. In addition, the group supports decisions on changes to methodologies; proposes guidelines, objectives and other specifications for this process. The committee also prepares studies and statistical analyses and issues technical opinions on the subject.

Alignments – The meeting last Monday (30) took place following a series of regional technical meetings, held throughout the month of September, with the aim of aligning logistical and security issues of the exam. The events were held in the cities of Curitiba (PR), Manaus (AM), Recife (PE) and Vitória (ES).

Check out some of the preliminary data regarding the logistics and security of Enem 2024:

1,753 application municipalities
Around 10 thousand test locations
10 thousand application coordinations
140 thousand testing rooms
More than 300 thousand employees
Around 58 thousand specialized services
Over 78,000 accessibility features
About 9 million printed proofs
18 different test booklets
Over 300 million pages printed
65 thousand evidence packages
22 thousand boxes of administrative materials
2,500 lightweight collapsible containers
60 transport trucks
10.8 thousand transport routes
Enem –  The National High School Exam assesses students’ academic performance at the end of basic education. Over its more than two decades of existence, Enem has become the main gateway to higher education in Brazil, through the Unified Selection System (Sisu) and initiatives such as the University for All Program (Prouni).

Public and private educational institutions use the Enem to select students. The results are used as the sole or complementary criterion for selection processes, in addition to serving as a parameter for access to government aid, for example that provided by the Student Financing Fund (Fies).

Individual Enem results can also be used in the selection processes of Portuguese institutions that have an agreement with Inep to accept exam scores. The agreements guarantee easy access to the scores of Brazilian students interested in pursuing higher education in Portugal.
