The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, ruled out this Monday a risk of canceling the first phase of the National High School Exam, held this Sunday. Inep called the Federal Police to investigate the image of a test that circulated on social media. The photo shows the essay theme page, with the respective motivational texts. Asked if there was a risk of cancellation, Camilo Santana said “not at all”.
The Ministry of Justice's report on the examination's "operational data" panel also showed that 15 people were arrested and cell phones used in fraud were seized. The minister stated that these were "one-off occurrences" and that the PF is investigating to provide a response.
— These were occasional occurrences. All occurrences are being investigated by the PF to provide a response — he stated, adding: — The overall balance was positive, and all issues are being investigated by the PF, which will present it to the MEC. Yesterday we took two steps in relation to the images circulated. The PF continues to investigate and carry out the necessary investigations to identify any type of illicit activity. Yesterday more than 4 thousand people were disqualified, 15 adults were arrested. Therefore, we consider it to be a positive day in completing the first stage of the Enem.
The Enem 2023 essay was about "Challenges for tackling the invisibility of care work carried out by women in Brazil". Through the press office, the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) informed that, when identifying any type of irregularity as appears to have happened, it is standard procedure to notify the Federal Police to investigate the facts.
In the morning, Camilo Santana met with President Lula, at Palácio do Planalto, to discuss debt refinancing for students financed by the Student Financing Fund (Fies). The proposal provides for a discount of up to 100% on interest and fines.
The minister stated that from this Tuesday onwards, anyone who has a contract with Fies will be able to renegotiate their debts over the phone or at branches of Caixa Econômica Federal or Banco do Brasil. Camilo also stated that the president's "concern" is to give "urgency" to the matter.
