The Congress of the Republic yesterday promulgated the law that establishes the automatic baccalaureate for students graduated during the years 2020 and 2021.
According to the “temporary” rule signed by the president and vice president of Parliament, the fourteenth transitory supplementary provision is incorporated into the University Law . It orders that students who have passed their undergraduate studies, both in public and private universities, during the aforementioned period, will automatically access their application and obtain the bachelor's degree.
In this way, starting today, They are exempted from the requirements established in numeral 45.1 of the law, which required to obtain said degree, the approval of a research project and knowledge of a foreign language, preferably English or native language.
These requirements should be applied, with exceptions, to students who began their studies from December 31, 2015 onwards, specified the National Superintendence of University Education (Sunedu) a year and a half ago.
However, on March 11, the Plenary approved the automatic baccalaureate bill (No. 5640) under the argument of reducing the effects of the pandemic, which had harmed the homes of university students. For its part, the Federation of Students of Peru indicated that with the degree they would have a greater possibility of accessing a decent job to sustain the family economy.
The Ministry of Education and Sunedu have been against. The first said that it violated the spirit of the University Law. The second said that there are conditions that ensure the service and that the development of research work has not been restricted by the pandemic.
