The Ministry of Education (MINED) expects some 70,000 students in their second year of high school, both from public and private institutions, to take the AVANZO test in 2022, which since 2020 replaces the Learning and Aptitude Test for Secondary Education Graduates (PAES).
The interim head of MINED, José Mauricio Pineda, told Channel 10 this morning that the AVANZO will be held this year for four days, from November 14 to 17. The evaluation will be virtual, but the State portfolio will have physical tests ready for students with visual disabilities, deprived of liberty and "other cases that are previously identified."
The test will be enabled from 8:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon during the four scheduled days. November 14 will be dedicated to the questionnaire on the student's socio-emotional stage, on November 16 the test of mathematics, social studies, civics and the vocational orientation questionnaire will be carried out. The 17th will be devoted to natural sciences, language and literature, and English. This last subject will not be weighted, the minister clarified, but it will serve to determine the level of English of the high school graduates.
Pineda said that students have until October 26 to register for the test, although he clarified that if due to some unforeseen event he does not meet this requirement within the established period, he will not be left out of the process. You will only have to contact the MINED so that you can complete this term, she affirmed.
An extraordinary test is also planned, on January 27, 2023, for those who cannot take the evaluation on the dates established by the ministry.
The official also recalled that the AVANZO test represents 5% of the student's total grade, although he insisted that the focus of this evaluation is no longer "punishing" the student, "which was the perception of the PAES test." , added; but "knowing where we (the educational system) have to direct our theme, our approaches".
