Speakers Bureau - Utilizing Assessment Strategies to Measure Impact and Student Services to Support Positive Learner Outcomes and Success
Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) plans require data to design relevant goals, strategies, and tactics to achieve the desired outcomes. Data, from many sources provides the foundation for institutional and learner success. Too often consideration for data is heavily focused on the pre-enrollment and enrollment aspects of SEM work (e.g., marketing, recruitment, and conversion) and less so on the full student experience. Given the holistic nature of SEM work, there are a considerable number of opportunities to effectively engage in the assessment of student service units and programs that are part of the student journey.
Frequently however, the term “assessment” is met with trepidation across student service units. The gathering and use of assessment data is critically important to effectively deploy limited resources and determine program effectiveness in support of learners. Designing assessment plans will strengthen evidence-based decision making, contribute to achieving learner and institutional goals, and strengthen SEM planning. In this workshop participants will:
Learn about the purpose and value of assessment in student service areas
Explore principles of good practice
Identify evidence currently collected and consider its usefulness
Explore various types of assessment methods and their application
Learn how to develop program learning outcomes
Consider how to best connect their assessment strategies to their SEM planning
