Spend two days diving into the work of the registrar’s office. This workshop is for those new to the profession and will address many of the “what” and “how” questions that make up the work of the registrar. A significant portion of the workshop will focus on understanding and applying FERPA. Attendees will leave the workshop with a greater understanding of the depth and breadth of the work of the registrar, where to find information and answers, and a solid network of professional colleagues.

  • helpful information resources that registrars use for their daily work;
  • the registrar's impact on academic policies and regulations;
  • the latest interpretations of FERPA and other federal compliance issues.

Presenter: Stephanie Henning, Central College

Stephanie Henning is the Registrar at Central College in Pella, Iowa where she has worked for nine years.  She has a total of 28 years of experience in higher education and almost 26 years of registrar’s office experience.  In her role as registrar, she is involved in registration, scheduling, curriculum management, transfer credit evaluation, academic alert, degree audit, and she oversees the internal and external reporting of institutional data.  She has been a longtime, active member of UMACRO and AACRAO by presenting, serving on the Small College Issues Committee for six years, the Registration and Academic Support Committee for three years and has been an LAC volunteer numerous times.  Stephanie earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Upper Iowa University.

LeRoy Rooker, former director of the U.S. Department of Education's Family Policy Compliance Office and AACRAO Senior Fellow, is the nation's leading expert on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a comprehensive federal law that provides privacy protections for student education records. Mr. Rooker served for 21 years as director of FPCO and is well known throughout the higher education community because of his extensive outreach while at the Department.
