Letter from AACRAO President Paul Aucoin
Dear AACRAO Members:
As most of us near the beginning of another Fall Semester, it is time that you are updated on a few of your Board of Directors recent activities.
The Board met July 22nd to 25th to discuss the strategic issues of the association. At the meeting, among other things, the Board reviewed the current strategic plan, recommended changes, and approved the amended version for 2007-2008. See the revised strategic plan here: www.aacrao.org/about/members_only/2007-2008_Strategic_Plan.pdf
The Board of Directors also adopted a motion that restated its commitment " …to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and integrity in the conduct of the Association's affairs, as well as to the promotion of professionalism, ethics and integrity in the conduct of campus operations represented by the Association's membership."The full text of the motion is available online at: www.aacrao.org/about/members_only/minutes/2007/meeting16_ML.pdf
Consistent with the approved motion the Board will be working to:
- Review the Association's existing policies and practices with regard to its internal operations and its interactions with organizations that seek to transact business with, join, support, exhibit at or advertise with the Association, and develop proposed policies and procedures, as needed, that would address not only actual conflicts of interest, but also the appearance of any such possible conflicts in the conduct of the Association's activities.
- Review the Association's existing policies and practices with regard to acceptance of anything of other-than-nominal value—including gifts, meals, travel, and expense reimbursements—by any member of the Association's Board of Director, staff, or volunteers with Board-delegated authority from any entity with which the Association does or may conduct business or any entity with a possible interest in influencing the Association; and develop proposed policies and procedures, as needed, that would address not only actual conflicts of interest, but also the appearance of any such possible conflicts in the conduct of the Association's activities.
- Review the Association's Statement of Professional Practices and Ethical Standards, and recommend an action plan for its revision, and recommend a specially appointed taskforce, if needed, after active consultation with the membership.
The minutes recording these and other actions of the Board are posted at: www.aacrao.org/about/members_only/minutes/2007/meeting16_ML.pdf
The next Board of Directors Meeting will be held October 7th through the 10th in St. Petersburg, Florida . As with all board meetings, you are invited to attend; however, please notify us in advance of the issue you wish to personally bring to the board's attention.
If you have any concerns, questions or comments, please e-mail me at president@aacrao.org
Best wishes for an outstanding semester, and remember to Make it a Great Day!
